Truth in Humor

The rabbi calls men up for aliyahs,”Jack Goldstein, Yakov Fineman,and Norman Israel”. “He’s dead,” my father says in a loud stage whisper. A young woman in the row in front of us hears and starts laughing Pretty soon the whole row was giggling.My father’s comment was funny because there was more than a grain of truth in it. All you had to do was look around the geriatric center where services were being held.
Comedy is funny when it is based in truth. Sarah Silverman saying I love my vagina or Lena Dunham walking around naked is not funny. Personally it’s just pathetic. A riff on how the Obama White House came up with the made up name Khorason could end with some one saying, ” It sounds, a little Spanish. With that name we’ll be able to get the Hispanic voters.” What happened to comedy in this country? Political correctness.

When I was growing up comedy was king. Ed Sullivan always had on a comedian like Rodney Dangerfield, Henny Youngman, or Jackie Mason. Johnny Carson gave Joan Rivers her big break as well as George Carlin. Mr Carlin had a classic riff on “the 7 words not allowed to say on television”. Now we have almost seven topics that are not allowed to be touched. Race, homosexuality (of any gender),Muslims,women,global warming, Obama and his minions. Once political correctness takes hold humour disappears. Even in private converstions people watch what they say, afraid that something could be misconstrued and they could be labeled “haters.” or the kiss of death, “racists.” Political correctness is an anathema to freedom.

Our Muslim “friends” are always kvetching about being insulted. We are to believe that after raping and murdering thousands of Christians it is a “religion of peace.” It appears that one of the most verboten truths is saying that a Muslim convert cutting off someone’s head is an act of terrorism. It’s just more “workplace violence” and whole families of illegals are “children” that were welcomed by our government. When new definitions are given to words like marriage,which happens to have a long and successful history, we are supposed to accept the new social engineering and not even make fun of it. Laughing is good for our souls. In a statist government we’re not supposed to have one.

Truth isn’t necessarily pretty, but humor is a healthy way to look at it. Even in the terrible times of Nazi Germany Jews made jokes. In order to make someone laugh, a grain of truth has to be mined. ( not mimed) I’ve always said I’d rather laugh than cry. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of crying. I say the hell with political correctness. I’d rather laugh.

As the news becomes more and rmore appalling, many people find comfort in their religions’ Scriptures. For Jews it’s Torah. During this time before Rosh Ha Shana, Deverim, or Deuteronomy is read in synagogues all over the world. It retells Moses’ farewell to the Hebrews admonishing them to remember.         Throughout Devarim, Moses warns the people – no less than fourteen times – not to forget.

If they forget the past they will lose their identity and
sense of direction and disaster will follow. Moreover, not only are the people commanded to remember, they are also commanded to hand that memory on to their children.

Think about that. Why would Moses have to tell his people to remember? Isn’t memory natural? Maybe, for human beings, it’s too easy to forget. Maybe, we want to forget disastrous actions or choices. Maybe, he wanted to remind the Hebrews that we will keep making the same kind of mistakes if we don’t remember what happened before.

I listen to radio pundits and read many different websites and  everyone appears to be missing some salient facts that we should remember. One of those is that our president Barack Hussein Obama had a Muslim biological father and spent his formative years in a Muslim country with a Muslim stepfather. These are facts that are written in his autobiography. We know that at one time his name was Barry Soetoro. We don’t know when he changed it. We know that he thinks that the Muslim call to prayer is “one of the prettiest sounds he ever heard.” and that during his first inaugeration speech he said that this is “a nation of Christians and Musliims, Jewish  and Hindus and non- believers.” I remember hearing that and almost fell off my chair because this was after 9/11, the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center, Yemin, Rwanda, the massacre of our marines in Lebanon, and on and on.Even conservative pundits are on the band wagon singing that our president’s bored or incompetant.

Every excuse is made except the FACTS. The facts are these, just as Judaism is transmitted through the mother, Islam is transmitted through the father. There is no personal choice. If a person chooses to leave the religion of one’s father he is an apostate and sentenced to die, just like Miriam Ibrahim. These are facts we must remember when our president makes decisions that appear to be against the welfare of the United States. Just as Moses admonished his people we must remember or disaster will follow.

Joan and Debbie: Two Kinds of Jews

Can we talk? Let’s discuss two different Jews.

Joan Rivers died suddenly and fans everywhere mourn her passing. When Debbie Wasserman Shmutz Schultz finally loses an election her constituents will celebrate.

Most people have heard the quotation, “Politics is show business for ugly people,” but I’ll go further. Politics is for ugly people who have no compunction about lying.  DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shmutz Schultz said Governor Walker  gave women “the back of his hand” and “grabbed women by the hair and is pulling us back” I imagine Ms. Rivers would say something like “Debbie, Can we talk? it looks like that’s what your hairdresser did to you.”  Everything about Joan Rivers was real except her face, while the only thing real about Debbie is for her to say the most outrageous lies with a straight face.

Misspeaking, or what we used to call lying, Ms Wasserman- Shmutz Schultz  stated “We know, and I’ve heard no less than Ambassador Michael Oren say this, that what the Republicans are doing is dangerous for Israel.” The Ambassador categorically denied that. Then she tried to wriggle out of it like a worm. Unfortunately for her once again she was caught and once again showed no shame. When Elizabeth Taylor, a butt of Joan’s fat jokes, showed up at her house, Rivers was gracious, polite, and kind showing the class she was known for.

Although I never met the ball of energy called Joan Rivers I’ve read enough pieces mentioning how kind she was to her fans. Steve Olsen , owner of the West Bank Café,  where she would  tryout her comedy routines, stated . “She said she lived for family, friends and her fans. Since the newest Jews of her constituency aren’t Holocaust survivors, but refugees from the Communist anti-Semitic paradise of Chavez and Maduro, it’s not too constituency friendly to be the DNC chairwoman of the Party that denied God three times and took Jerusalem out of its platform. Those refugees pay to send their children to private Jewish schools  to learn about  God  and Israel. They’ve already been the scapegoat of a tyrannical anti-Semitic government and not looking for another one.

Joan made us laugh. Jews are taught that every word in Torah is holy. When the angels told Abraham that Sarah would have a child at the age of 93 she laughed. The root of Itzchak or Isaac is the same as laugh. Joan utilized her gifts to make us laugh and little Debbie give us moments of happiness and forgetfulness.  She was generous to charities and individuals. Her non- stop work, while dealing with setbacks and tragedies, is legendary. She was also steadfast in her support of Israel. By the way, Joan Rivers was a Republican.

Debbie Wasserman Shmutz Schultz has been living on our tax dollars for her whole professional life. She seems to have forgotten that she is a public servant. She has never made me laugh but many times has made me scream at my TV.. She’s also the Chairman of the Democrat National Committee. It has been very obvious from Obama,Hillary, and Kerry who they support and it’s not Israel. Debbie is their cheerleader and steadfastly supports them and their nefarious schemes against the Jewish state  Two Jews two different ways of life. Which do you prefer?
